Leave it to Cavalier to turn a trip to the toilet into a “sentimental journey.” In bars and pool-halls, funeral parlors and friends' apartments, Cavalier locks himself in the loo with camera in hand, recording his impressions. Whether marble-clad shrine or hole in the ground, all of these places share an essential function; here, along with “touching” toilet paper dispensers and other eccentric details, the filmmaker finds philosophical epiphanies in visceral form, “evidence of life.”
