Frank documented a1969 hunger strike in Hayward, California, "The Hunger Show," held tocall attention to the world food shortage. "The documentaries Life-RaftEarth and Cocksucker Blues recorded events that typify the mediaconsciousness of the counter-culture during this period.... In bothfilms, Frank deemphasized the overt issues and tried to question thestructure and ultimate motivations behind these events. He refused toglorify them or use his work to popularize even those issues with whichhe sympathized" (Philip Brookman).
