Light Cone: Experimental Film Distribution in Europe

Introduced by Yann Bauvais Tonight'stwo-part program will give Bay Area audiences an opportunity to view a selectionof films distributed by Light Cone, in Paris. Light Cone accepts experimentalfilms on deposit, with the filmmakers retaining ownership. Filmmaker YannBeauvais, founder of Light Cone, will discuss Light Cone and, in the program'ssecond part, present a selection of his recent films. FromLight Cone, "two found-footage films, La Peche miraculeuse and Acidfilmda,question the materiality of the medium. Seven Landscapes, Bouquet, and BrokenBlossoms deal with landscape, investigating the ways in which light and colorshape our perceptions, while Shimmer questions the imaginary territory belongingto memory."-Yann Beauvais Formally rigorous, often working withtext as a visual element, Beauvais's films range from the diaristic to thesocially committed discourse. Included are Amoroso, which is both a film journalof Beauvais's visit to Rome and Tivoli and an evocation of Kenneth Anger'searlier representation of Tivoli in Eaux d'Artifice, and New York Long Distance,in which postcard images are combined with autobiographical fragments to tracethe distance memory travels.
