The Lighted Field (Andrew Noren, USA, 1987)

: Noren, whose world in Lighted Field is largely domestic, makes very specific reference to The Man with a Movie Camera, but while Vertov and his cameraman-brother Kaufman were enamored of the photographic and editing process, Noren is "intoxicated by the effect of light on film emulsion, the stuff itself...(the) erotics of seeing, of sensual shadow-play and light-frenzied closeups. The Lighted Field...is shot in austere, high-contrast black and white. The mode is contemplative (but) his camera dematerializes the world into a pure rush of energy" (J. Hoberman).
