Liliom plus Short

Liliom
A legendary film by Frank Borzage, Liliom is based on Molnar's play - which was also adapted by Fritz Lang (1934) and by Henry King (as Carousel, 1956) - about Liliom (Charles Farrell), the roguish fairground barker who embarks on a robbery in order to get money to support his pregnant girlfriend (Rose Hobart). When the hold-up fails, Liliom kills himself rather than face a lifetime in prison. He is sent by celestial express to Heaven...whence he returns to earth for one last chance, after an interview with the Chief Magistrate.
This poetic fantasy is strongly developed by Borzage, aided by some wonderful settings and special effects. The original New York Times review noted the fine acting of Farrell, Hobart, and Lee Tracy (as the Buzzard, Liliom's partner in crime).
