The Little Angel (Engelein).
"The character that emerges from hercomedies°is the unstoppable extrovert, constantly plotting°(She) usually invadesa stuffy, middle-class environment and turns it on its ear-not through burlesqueor slapstick but by behaving more or less normally for the character she isplaying." (R. C. Allen) Here, at age thirty-four, she plays aseventeen-year-old who must masquerade as a twelve-year-old (which would make herlegitimate) in order for her family to gain an inheritance from a rich uncle. Butshe falls in love with the uncle, adding a bizarre sexual conceit to herno-holds-barred tomboy antics.
