London Belongs to Me (U.S.: Dulcimer Street) and Captain Celluloid vs. the Film Pirates: Chapter 4
London Belongs to Me
Based on a popular novel, London Belongs to Me is set in a slum boarding house where the lodgers include garage mechanic Richard Attenborough, fake medium Alastair Sim, a retired clerk and a nightclub cloakroom attendant. When one of their lot is accused of murder, all rally together in his support. “Long missing from the Launder-Gilliat repertoire, this was one of their least successful ventures, partly because it was far more downbeat than usual, and also because it was flawed, due to its determination to stick too closely to its source novel. Today, seen in the correct perspective as a tangential film noir, it works rather better.” William K. Everson
