For the Love of It: Fourth Annual Festival of Amateur Filmmaking
Curated and Introduced by Melinda Stone
Artists in Person
For over sixty years amateur filmmakers in the United States have been passionately pursuing their craft and exhibiting their movies primarily within film clubs. Whether making autobiographical essays or experimental nature films, amateur filmmakers create for the love of it. In the past year one of the amateur film club world's exemplary members, Sid Laverents, had his mind-boggling back-winding, black-matting, hilarious, and crafty film Multiple Sidosis named to the prestigious National Film Registry. In addition to this honor, Multiple Sidosis was restored by Ross Lippman at the UCLA Film and Television Archive and the wondrous results will be shown this evening in 35mm. Following this rare screening, The Sid Saga will make its Bay Area premiere. This autobiographical documentary reveals the life of Sid Laverents as only he can tell it. It is hard to believe that one man led such a curious and full life and lived to make a film about it. The evening will conclude with two local award-winning videos. In the spirit of amateur film club events, the fourth annual For the Love of It will conclude with door prizes and refreshments. Filmmakers will be in attendance to answer questions. Tentative appearance by Sid Laverents.
