This festival of amateur film returns to PFA after a two-year hiatus with a program that uniquely blends local amateur film club productions with newly commissioned works by four Bay Area film artists. Projects made collaboratively by club members have always been a signature of amateur film clubs, and we are pleased to present three recent projects: Motor Car Mania by the San Jose Movie/Video Club; Maybe Today by Viewfinders Club, based in Cupertino; and Dead Issue by LA Cinema Club, as well as one 16mm classic, Moods of the City, from the now defunct San Francisco–based Westwood Movie Club. The donation by amateur film club member Bernard Wood of Super 8mm Kodachrome sound cartridges inspired PFA to commission film artists Kerry Laitala, Jim Granato, Keith Evans, and Paul Clipson to make new films, each using a single roll of the donated stock. These contemporary filmmakers, who embody the spirit of the amateur film clubs, will premiere their commissioned work in this program.
