Love of Life

"When I play, I make love. It is the same thing," comments Arthur Rubinstein in this Academy Award-winning documentary celebration of one of the world's great musicians. Directors François Reichenbach and S.G. Patris establish an intimate rapport with the artist as they follow him on a concert tour from Spain to Persia to Israel, and then to New York and on a nostalgic visit to Paris's Montmartre district. Interspersed with concert footage and close-ups of Rubinstein's keyboard technique are flashbacks of the artist's past, accompanied by his own discourse in which he reveals himself to be not only a man totally absorbed in the creation of beauty, but a great raconteur, a fabulous mimic, and, above all, a profound enthusiast for life.
