Lunch with Fela

Abraham Ravett's textured, emotional films and videos have often documented his relationship with his parents, both concentration camp survivors. Drawing on some of his previous works, and incorporating a rich mixture of texts, animation, and family mementos, Ravett's most recent film focuses on the loss of his mother, Fela. Among the first images in Lunch with Fela are a lock and an empty apartment. Fela has relocated to a nursing home, and while Ravett has many conversations with her, both mundane and emotional, much of his mother's life remains inaccessible to him, obscured by time, pain, and the limits of language.
