Méliès and Starewicz for Kids
Admission: $3. Recommended for age 5 and older. Jon Mirsalis on Piano. Age-appropriate selections from our evening programs, Méliès the Magician and Starewicz in Wonderland. The charming and disarming films of Georges Méliès, the first and still the best magician of the cinema, combined live-action and animation, trick photography and trompe-l'oiel, and marvelous color tinting. (See introduction, this page.) Ladislaw Starewicz was the poet of puppet animation whose films, made in the 'teens and early twenties, were stories and fairytales starring "frolicsome dragonflies, grumpy bumblebees, bees that cook, woodcutter ants and musical crickets..." (See November 24.)
