Machito: A Latin Jazz Legacy & Electric Boogie

Tana Ross and Freke Vuijst Direct: Electric Boogie This documentary follows four teenagers-two Blacks and two Puerto Ricans-as they breakdance their way through the South Bronx. Captured here is more than the razzle-dazzle of a dance fad. By juxtaposing the boy's dances with events in their daily lives, Electric Boogie shows how their frustrations and longings are channeled into creative activities. These teenagers perform anytime, anywhere transcending the harsh realities of their environment, and dissipating the race barriers in this impromptu troupe. Electric Boogie also brings you closer to understanding how breakdancing became such a vital expression of life in a dehumanizing urban landscape.
