The Man Who Could Work Miracles

In yet another H.G. Wells adaptation, a timid draper's attendant (Roland Young) is invested with omnipotent powers over all material things. Various persons and sectors of society - friends, church, big business, etc. - attempt to convince him to use his miracles for vulgar aggrandizement and profit. A clergyman plans to coerce the miracle worker into ending wars and creating a general “utopia.” Upon hearing this, a retired colonel (Ralph Richardson) seeks to kill him. The amazing conclusion features a “socialist tirade” (Variety) and a sweeping indictment of world leaders.
