Moran of the Lady Letty
Many critics consider Moran of the Lady Letty to be Rudolph Valentino's best-made vehicle, though it is rarely revived. Based on a story by Frank Norris (author of McTeague on which the film Greed is based), it tells of a moneyed rogue who falls in love with the daughter of an old Scandinavian sea captain. It was shot on location in Tiburon with most of the action taking place either on the waterfront or the open sea. Nicely done settings and first-rate photography lend an aura of realism to the narrative, even if Valentino is a little too slick to be utterly convincing as a hero of rugged adventure.
