The More the Merrier
"Stevens' comedies had two particular distinguishing features: a strong sense of character and an offbeat handling of romance. Both are sparklingly displayed in this story about the housing shortage in wartime Washington which prompts a government worker to share her apartment with two men. Joel McCrea deftly moves in on Jean Arthur's feelings as well as her furniture; Charles Coburn gives an Oscar-winning performance; Stevens directs both the humorous and amorous maneuvers with sly precision."
