Mr. Tompkins Inside Himself

Physicist George Gamow and experimental filmmaker Stan Brakhage collaborated on this adaptation of Gamow's well known books for children which feature Mr. Tompkins, a bank clerk interested in modern science. Mr. Tompkins Inside Himself uses microcinematography to examine the inside of the human body. The film was intended for grade-school children, although it was appreciated by both Edward Teller and Linus Pauling. Tonight's screening provides a rare opportunity to view a little-known aspect of Brakhage's filmmaking. Watch for footage which was also used in his Dog Star Man. -Kathy Geritz
