This is an epic master class by Martin Scorsese on how to watch films, how to interpret a director's intentions, and how to enjoy cinema. But it is more than a brilliantly entertaining tutorial. My Voyage to Italy takes Scorsese back to Italy and his Sicilian roots. We are treated to an impassioned, analytical tour of modern Italian cinema, from the neorealist revolution wrought by Luchino Visconti and Roberto Rossellini, through Vittorio De Sica and Michelangelo Antonioni, up to Federico Fellini's 8 1/2. This is a moving and enthralling exercise, touched with genius.
