This outstanding documentary by Clara Riascos is the story of a woman-Myriam Ramírez-who decides to become a squatter on a wasteland in order to build a house for herself and her three children. Myriam's guiding principle has always been to have her children grow up in an atmosphere of affection, and she has constantly tried to improve her knowledge and abilities to the point where she has become a community leader. As a child, she thought that her gaze was destructive, until the rage in her was assuaged by a kindly old man. Today she works at the school that she herself helped to build. --Laurence Kardish
