Nénette and Boni
A family reunion of sorts: Claire Denis works again with the two irresistible principals of her adolescent drama U.S. Go Home, Grégoire Colin and Alice Houri. The two young actors once again play brother and sister, this time products of a broken home. Boni is a sex-starved pizza worker; his sister Nénette has more pressing problems, trapped in a boarding school and seven months pregnant with a child she doesn't want. The two warily embark on an unsentimental journey of the spirit that leads them to an unexpected conclusion. Denis' richest work to date reveals not only her trademark flair for sensual, tactile filmmaking, but also a sure-footed experimentation with cinematic styles.-Beverly Berning
