The Need
The Need is an excellent example of Iranian cinema's ability to create engaging and sophisticated films that can be appreciated by adults and young audiences alike. Davudnezhad carries on the tradition established by renowned directors Naderi and Kiarostami in constructing a story involving teenage boys and their formation of a selfless, dedicated friendship in the midst of poverty and deprivation. This outwardly simple theme is the premise for a sensitive and touching drama where the purity and honesty of the boys' sentiments triumph. The Need is beautifully textured, thanks to a credible, well-written story and great performances elicited from the entire cast.-Toronto Festival
