Never Give a Sucker an Even Break

Fields' later films dispense with such impediments as plot, logic and sanity. One of his funniest, Never Give a Sucker an Even Break has something to do with Fields (playing himself, and billed as “The Great Man”) diving out of an airplane after a whiskey bottle and landing on a mountaintop presided over by the dangerous Mrs. Hemogloben (Margaret Dumont). From there he makes his way to a hash-house in time to insult the waitress (“I did not say this meat was tough. I just said I didn't see the horse that usually stands outside”), and finally returns to his job at Esoteric Studios.

Additional screening at 9:30 p.m.
