An entertaining and exuberant toast to a dying breed of journalists, Newsfront follows the adventures and loves of Australian newsreel photographers working for two rival companies in the decade following World War II. Director Phillip Noyce skillfully incorporates newsreel footage from the 1950s into his fictional re-creation of the era, and the result is a consciously nostalgic and ironic picture of a bygone time, when television had not yet induced its false sophistication in newspeople and audiences alike.
