Nicaragua: No Pasarán

David Bradbury's documentary, Nicaragua: No Pasarán (They Will Not Enter) is a portrait of a revolution under siege. The story of Tomas Borge, Nicaraguan Minister of the Interior and the sole surviving founder of the original Sandinista movement, is the dramatic centerpiece of the film which also "co-stars" renegade contra leader Eden Pastora and Pope John Paul II. While documenting the country's struggle to survive in the face of massive U.S. economic and military pressure, Bradbury also covers issues such as press censorship, the militarization of society and the resultant shortages. He provides a thorough and analytical picture to counter the Reagan administration's portrait of the beleaguered country as a massive threat to U.S. security. The Australian filmmaker was previously best known for his 1979 documentary, Frontline.
