Night Before the Strike

The South Korean government attempted to censor this film and then to ban it. It was finally shown in college auditoriums around the country after student and democratic groups successfully lobbied against the government ruling. This moving drama deals with the aftereffects of the massive workers' union strike in South Korea in 1987. A young worker, driven by his hatred of poverty, is tempted by the temporary benefits of participation in the "yellow" union organized by the factory leaders, but his growing awareness of unfair labor practices forces him to take matters into his own hands.
