No Longer Silent
For Indian women, injustice is literally a life and death concern. Favoritism towards males starts before birth (with amniocentesis, more and more female fetuses are being aborted), and continues through childhood (in everything from nutrition to hospitalization). But too often it all ends in young adulthood: in 1985, bride burnings by dowry-hungry families numbered over 600 in Dehli alone. This passionate film examines the feminist movement in India and its efforts, along with those of a U.N. development worker to organize women in rural areas.
