In Nome del Popolo Italiano (In the Name of the Italian People)

Yesterday's scandal headlines are fashioned into an ironic look at the workings of Italian justice in this utterly cynical film. Ugo Tognazzi and Vittorio Gassman are rather brilliantly pitted against one another as a corrupt industrialist and the idealistic federal judge who tries to nail him for the murder of a young call girl. The pre-trial investigation takes us into the heart of La Dolce Vita, but it all boils down to a one-on-one confrontation between the two headstrong protagonists. In the end, guilt and innocence are thrown up for grabs. Meanwhile, the Popolo Italiano are busy rioting in the streets--over a soccer match.
