North West Mounted Police
"An outstanding and beautiful outdoor film, photographed in gorgeous Technicolor, containing a gory and absorbing melodramatic story in which the traditions of the red-coated constable of the famous brigade are preserved and passed on to younger men.... Notwithstanding swiftly paced action and first class fiction, which is predicated on actual historical events, audience interest throughout is centered on the superb colored views of mountains, forests and valleys.... Color and screen long ago ceased to be strangers, but DeMille has lifted the visual element of his production to a new plane." (Variety). Gary Cooper stars as a displaced Texan, Dusty Rivers, who finds himself caught up in the insurrection of 1885 that spawned the North West Mounted Police. Paulette Goddard is featured as a "half-breed," but it is Madeleine Carroll who always gets her man.
