The Oath and the Man

The story of an act of Christian forbearance in the midst of revolution: A member of the nobility takes a fancy to the wife of a perfumer and assumes it is his right to take her from her husband; she, in turn, is dazzled by his attentions. The perfumer, an activist leader, directs an angry mob toward the nobleman's estate, making fugitives of his wife and her lover. Reminded of an oath he took not to kill them, the perfumer helps them escape their would-be assassins.
