This documentary study of choreographer Pina Bausch represents a confrontation between two major European artists of the '70s and '80s, their methods and philosophies. Akerman follows the Pina Bausch dance troupe on a European tour, recording their preparations and constant rehearsals, and talking privately with Bausch about her childhood, her artistic “standing” and her approach to dance.
