Europe's oldest active director returns to his birthplace for this paean to a Portuguese city's past, and to memory itself. Created to celebrate Oporto's status as the European Cultural Capital for 2001, it willfully subverts typical city–films by seeking out what exists only in Oliveira's memory-a city of artists, poets, and bohemians, a city laden with history and ruins, and filled with music.
