A moving and complex portrait of the emerging roles of youth and women in modern Iran, focusing on the 2001 elections. There are over 700 candidates-forty-eight of them women whom the government refuses to recognize. A group of idealistic teenagers have set up a campaign office to promote the popular reformist candidate Mohammed Khatami, the eventual winner. Then, in a focus on one of the women candidates, Arezoo Bayat, we get a look at the other side. Although Bayat's story is full of despair, her strength and ambition remind us of the hope and energy the new generation brings.
