(Mooshakhe-e Kahghazi). Traditional folklore and modern cinema collide when a traveling projectionist and his young son visit an isolated Iranian village in order to show films to people who have never even heard of movies. Journeying from Tehran to the distant, lush mountain forests of northern Iran, Hashem and his son Reza battle irate drivers, flat tires, and particularly stubborn horses on their mission to bring the magic of celluloid to a brand new audience. But before night falls and the show can begin, the two travelers are befriended by the village children, who narrate their own stories and legends and share their traditional pastimes. Paper Airplanes blends a loose-knit narrative with a true-to-life look at the children and cultures of northern Iran in a captivating film that sparkles with a sense of childlike wonder.
