Paris-New York

"A floating Grand Hotel-with romantic complications and a jewel thief to emphasize the relationship to the early MGM film-this all-star film is most notable, historically, for its virtually documentarian content. It deals with a trip to visit the French Pavillion at the New York World's Fair in 1939, and was largely shot on the Normandie. Before it could be edited and released, France had fallen to the German forces-who promptly removed Erich von Stroheim from it (as they did also with Macao) and replaced him with Maurice Escande. Presumably unaware of the relationship with von Stroheim, the Nazis left Denise Vernac's role alone!" William K. Everson Note: Our print is in French with a complete English synopsis provided.
