Pat Paulsen of The Smothers Brothers fame has spent a considerable part of his career denying that he's running for the presidency. But there's no denying that he's been one of the most entertaining candidates. Pat Paulsen for President traces the first of six campaigns Mr. Pat has run as the representative of "Straight Talking Americans for Government," or the Stag Party. Narrated by Henry Fonda, PPP is a presidential portrait gone mad as Paulsen conducts his 89¢-a-plate fund-raising dinner, tells everyone along the stump that the last stop was full of phonies, and exclaims "although I am a professional comedian, some of my critics say this isn't enough." This year, Mr. Paulsen promises to end the deficit by making it a federal program and then phasing it out.
