The Photograph (La Photo)

"It is 1971, and a young Greek furrier, frustrated by life in a dictatorship, leaves for Paris, taking with him a photograph he found in the street of one of his country's popular singers. He lies to the distant cousin with whom he moves in, telling him the woman is his sister. The cousin, an aging bachelor, decides he wants to marry her. More lies and misunderstandings follow, setting up a series of events that move beyond the men's control. The Chicago Film Festival says: "The Photograph represents a complex meditation on photographic reality in decidedly human terms; the photo changes from souvenir to family portrait to a kind of symbol that these characters will finally struggle to possess.' The story and actors are expertly directed by Nicos Papatakis whose other films include Les Abysses, a controversial selection at Cannes in 1963." -Walter V. Addiego
