Kangwon Province-with mountains, temples, and seaside-is a popular getaway destination for Koreans. Jisook, a graduate student traveling with friends after a breakup with a married man, and Sangkwon, a professor awkwardly angling for a tenure position, both visit Kangwon in an attempt to escape their lives for a weekend, but end up amplifying the aggravations and emptiness they had sought to evade. Hong Sang-Soo creates a perfect double miniature of loss and loneliness in two separate stories, told in sequence yet with a mysterious temporal connection that causes a reappraisal of what has come before.
