The Return of Christopher Columbus
A young American journeys to Southern France to investigate his family's roots and is taken in by a couple who are charmed by his manner and his quest. The husband, however, suspecting his wife's infidelity, soon turns on the guest, and it is left to an elderly woman living nearby to guide the American through his Old World history. But when the police come around looking for a foreigner who has attacked a local girl, this filmic investigation into provincial life and culture turns into a film policier, full of menacing and intriguing ambiguities.
