The Return of Frank James

“The chief attraction of Fritz Lang's first Western is its beautiful feeling for the outdoors, established in a lovely opening sequence showing Henry Fonda ploughing. This celebration of the open air continues in episodes made on location in the Rockies, including a chase and gun duel anticipating Anthony Mann's Bend of the River and Winchester '73. Sensitive colour photography and sound recording enhanced an otherwise fairly routine sequel to Henry King's Jesse James (a clip from the latter introduces Lang's film)... but (a) brilliant display of Hollywood craftsmanship.”
