The Revolt of the Daughters-in-Law (Bunt Nevestok)
This is a humorouslook at contemporary life in Uzbekistan, where several generations stilllive together and families average seven or eight children. The filmfocuses on several women living in such a family situation. Farman-bibiis the mother of seven sons and the grandmother of twenty. She rules theroost like a benevolent despot, balancing her ambitions for her childrenwith a stinginess inherent in community management (even if it isantithetical to a mother's urge). This basic family structure and therelations of its members are deeply ingrained in the customs of theUzbek people. Still, asks Nigora, wife of Farman-bibi's seventh son, isthis a way to live? Nigora leads the rebellion of the daughters-in-law.Nigora is played by Dilorom Egamberdieva, who is our guest this evening.
