The Ringer
"The Ringer has been filmed four times by the British and twice by the Germans. Tonight's is the last of the British ones, unreleased theatrically in the States, but shown on television. The British adaptations have always stayed very close to the play, concentrating on the characterization (and an almost unnecessary comic relief) rather than action or on emphasizing the near-horror that could be extracted from the revenge and threatened-murder theme. But it's a good story and always works, despite a climax that one would expect to drive the censors wild with frustration." William K. Everson
