Garbo's second talkie was romance with a twist of religion; again cast as an opera star, this time Italian, she suffers the revelations of a questionable past by the priest who loves her. The highlight, as usual, is the poetic tenderness that Garbo gives to the glamorous, ill-fated character in which she had already been type-cast.
