Mardawn Wendt is a librarian at Berkeley Arts Magnet Elementary School.

Eleven-year-old Turtle has seen enough of the world not to expect a Hollywood ending. After all, it’s 1935 and jobs and money are scarce. So when her mom takes a housekeeping job for a lady who doesn’t like kids, Turtle heads off to Key West, Florida, without a tear, to live with relatives she’s never met. This historical novel tells the story of a young girl finding herself through new adventures in an unfamiliar place full of cousins, secrets, and even buried pirate treasure!
