Safe Harbors, Parts I & II
My View Film Crew in person plus live musical performance. (Special Admission: $1.) The East Bay Center for the Performing Arts (EBCPA) is an innovative Richmond-based organization dedicated to building community through the arts. Local youths are encouraged to use the arts as a rich resource for personal expression in cross-disciplinary programs. Safe Harbors II, premiering tonight, explores the emotional landscape of contemporary urban teens living in Richmond. The EBCPA's My View Film Crew weaves fictional as well as documentary stories into a format inspired by the African dilemma tale, examining the future of certain Richmond neighborhoods that exemplify the challenges posed by urban life in the nineties. Each of the tales depicts a dilemma arising from the character of the neighborhood culture while illuminating teens' visions of survival, reconciliation, and change. Safe Harbors II is an adaptation of Unincorporated, an original theater piece premiered by the members of EBCPA's Theater 11th Street. The evening includes a discussion with the student mediamakers, an open reception, and live music performed from the soundtrack.
