Salute John Citizen

Showing a British family, the Buntings, in their determined refusal to be demoralized by the war (a wedding takes place in a bombed-out church, a baby is born in a blitz), Salute John Citizen, "made by the independent British National company, and considered good enough to be picked up by Paramount for British release, was a British parallel to Hollywood's Mrs. Miniver, and unfortunately went into release at the same time. British critics applauded, but the British public stayed away in droves, preferring the showmanship of the Greer Garson film while laughing at its artificiality. Salute John Citizen is far more restrained, far more honest-and has remained in obscurity ever since. Never released in the U.S., it was even severely cut for Canadian release. Our print is of the full original version, and is being given its American premiere at PFA." -William K. Everson
