Satan Triumphant: Parts 1 and 2

Featuring a tour-de-force performance by Mosjoukine in a dual role. In subject matter, in tune with the vogue for demons, vampires, and the occult, stylistically this is a proto-Expressionist work that anticipates Caligari in startling ways. Set in Scandinavia, it tells of a virtuous but tormented widowed minister who is visited on the proverbial dark and stormy night by a stranger. The visitor plays a song before he leaves that awakens long-suppressed passions in his host. Part Two opens twenty years later on the minister's son, a brilliant pianist. Mosjoukine plays both minister and son in this weird and fascinating gem.
