Schmoedipus
"Oedipus, schmoedipus, what does it matter so long as the boy loves his mother?" Here,Potter reworks his visitation theme to explore the emotional bondsbetween a mother and son. A stranger named Glen (the ever-eccentric TimCurry, one year after originating his Frank N. Furter character for TheRocky Horror Picture Show) arrives on the doorstep of middle-agedElizabeth Carter (Anna Cropper) and claims to be the illegitimate sonshe gave away at birth. Dowdy and prudish, Elizabeth accepts the story, subconsciously hoping to relieve the guilt and shame of her teenagepregnancy. Potter reworked the same idea in the 1988 feature film Track29 (print unavailable in the U.S.), using Gary Oldman as the devilishyoung lad looking for his long-lost mum.
