The Secret of the Loch

Following Gaumont-British's example of The Ghoul, an Ealing subsidiary tried to cash in on the horror cycle with this thriller, clearly influenced by The Lost World (especially in its opening) and dealing with the still controversial and topical Loch Ness Monster. The normally ultra-cautious British censors saw fit to give it the equivalent of a "G" rating, indicating that its horror content is well under control. But it's an interesting film with some excellent art direction, and is let down only by the monster itself when it finally appears. William K. Everson
