Smile on a December Morning (Senyum Di Pagi Bulan Desember)
Smile on a December Morning is a humorous and touching portrayal of three social outcasts--Buang, Bernadus and Bakar--who hide out in a storage shed and are brought food every day by a little girl who has discovered them there. The screenplay was written by Arifin C. Noer, whose film, The Dawn, played at PFA in April. Director Wim Umboh is a pioneer of color film and panavision in his country; his films, which often center on life in the slums, have been honored at Indonesian and pan-Asian film festivals.
