Sold for Marriage
Admission to 7:30 show: $1.00.
“Many of the players from Intolerance came together in this D. W. Griffith-supervised melodrama of Russian immigrants. Lillian Gish plays Marfa, a Slavic beauty whose scheming aunt and uncle try to sell her into marriage to an ugly but wealthy peasant. The family emigrates to San Francisco, then Los Angeles, and there the schemers continue their evil efforts to sell Marfa to a rich husband. Cabanne directs this nightmarish tale in a style typical of Griffith films of the period.” Filmex '81
